The Sustainable Cotton Project (SCP) is a California based nonprofit promoting agricultural and environmental sustainability in California's farm-rich Central Valley. With more than 10 years in the field, SCP has built connections with growers, consumers, manufacturers and retailers in promoting environmentally sound agriculture and its products. SCP directs an award-winning agricultural program and internationally recognized Cleaner Cotton™ marketing campaign.
Our current programs include:
• The Cleaner Cotton™ field program

Cotton growers enroll a field into the program and SCP supports their use of best management practices to produce fiber without the use of the most toxic chemicals used in conventional cotton cultivation.
• The Cleaner Cotton™ marketing campaign

We educate consumers, manufacturers, fashion designers and retailers about the advantages of Cleaner Cotton™ and work with brands to incorporate our fiber into their product lines.
• The San Joaquin Sustainable Farming Project

With cotton acres declining and many growers increasing their acres of almonds and alfalfa, SCP expanded its outreach to include almonds and alfalfa. We work with Central Valley alfalfa, almond and cotton farmers to implement biologically based management practices and reduce their use of the most harmful chemicals.
SCP promotes practices that will help to sustain growers farming operations for years to come while protecting the environmental and public health in their communities.
